The mayor of Tehran said that Darvazeh Dowlat Gas Station Museum was a reminder of a certain period in the country’s history.

Addressing a ceremony to officially launch the museum on June 22, Pirouz Hanachi described the museum as one of the valuable sites in the city of Tehran, the Iranian capital, adding that it provided a scenery for remembering a certain period in the country’s history.

He said gas stations were reminiscent of an era when motorized vehicles began to emerge in cities, adding Darvazeh Dowlat or No. 6 Gas Station was one of the first three stations to be launched in the city of Tehran back in 1938.

The museum was launched by the Petroleum Museums and Archives Project of the Iranian Ministry of Petroleum and efforts are being made to launch three more gas station museums in the country by the end of the current calendar year to March 20, 2020.

The petroleum industry museums project of Iran was initiated in 2013 with direct support from Iranian Minister of Petroleum Bijan Zangeneh and is now being focused as the largest cultural initiative of the Iranian oil industry.
