Prime Minister Amin al-Sultan (pictured below (left)) get Muzaffar ad-Din Shah, the king of Qajar, to sign an oil concession awarded to William Knox D'Arcy in 1901.

Seven years later, Iran's first oil well gushed out crude in Masjid Soleyman at the depth of 360 meters. The development came following failures in rapid succession in Chia Sorkh area in Kermanshah. In case of failure in Masjid Soleyman, the foreign group of oil explorers has no option but to bring a total halt to their operations.
