An oil industry veteran has donated a measurement instrument to the Petroleum Museum and Documents Center, apparently used for measuring the diameter of rails or train wagon wheels.

Hassanali Nasim who worked for transportation section of the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) in Ahvaz before retirement, says that the device is very similar to a caliper and has been left behind from my father who served as head of Abadan oil refinery’s recruitment office during the second world war.

According to him, the instrument, most probably, was being used for measuring the rail or train wheel diameter during the second world war when Allied forces used Iran’s railroad network for sending troops and logistics to Russia to support the country in the fight against Nazis.

Nasim was deployed by NIOC in 1961 and get retired after 36 years working with the company.

A bronze coin illustrated with Queen Elizabeth which coined on the occasion of her travel to Iran, an old sewing machine, spoons and forks designed with the logo of the Anglo-Persian Oil Company and an old lantern dating back to 1941 are the other objects Mr. Nasim has donated to the Petroleum Museum.
