He also explained about the future plans of the Petroleum Museums for establishing similar museums in the city including changing Abadan technical- vocational school into the second petroleum museum in the city, taking a new step in the path to turning the city into a city-museum.

Ladan Alipour, who is in charge of running Abadan Gas Station Museum, was another speaker of the ceremony saying since the inauguration of the museum in January 2017 more than 6500 people have visited it including 1500 students.

According to her, more than 2660 people have traveled to Abadan from other provinces of the country to visit the museum as well as 100 tourists from other countries.

In addition to Abadan Gas Station Museum, four other spots in the city are scheduled to be turned into petroleum museums including Abadan historical jetty, the area surrounding a very oil crane, Abadan oil refinery’s power plant, and an old technical- vocational school.

Iran’s Petroleum Ministry inaugurated its first oil industry museum in the southwestern city of Abadan January last year at Iran's oldest gas station in Abadan which had been built by Anglo-Persian Oil Company in 1927.

At that time, it provided oil and gasoline for household and transportation sectors. It also served airplanes.

In the main building of the Abadan gas station museum, all documents and objects related to petrol station like pumps, scales, jerry cans and other tools and documents have been put on display to explain how gasoline was distributed in the past. The building was operational until 40 years ago, before being disused.

Earlier, director of Petroleum Museums Akbar Nematollahi had said that 20 spots have been selected to house petroleum industry museum in Abadan, of which five are prioritized for the first phase.

"Petroleum industry museums in Abadan are to be launched in five spots in this city; namely, Abadan gas station, technical-vocational school, Abadan historical jetty, power plant number 1 and luxury houses," he added.
