A ceremony was held to honor Mohammad Ali Movahed, author of The Nightmare of Petroleum, at the University of Tehran.

The ceremony was attended by senior officials and literature figures Gholam Ali Haddad Adel, Mohammad Reza Shafiei Kadkani, Hojjatollah Ayoubi and a group of professors of literature.

A stamp dedicated to Movahed was unveiled and awarded to him.

Ayoubi, secretary-general of UNESCO national committee in Iran, and Haddad Adel, director of Persian Language and Literature Academy, delivered speeches to the event.

For his part, Movahed, who was addressing the ceremony, said he was happy to have received the UNESCO award.

"I'm hard of hearing and I didn't hear exactly what was said, but it was clear that they were exaggerating about me," he quipped. 

Born in the northwestern city of Tabriz in 1923, Movahed joined the petroleum industry in Abadan in 1950.

He was named the chief editor of National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) journal after Britain expropriated. 

He is known for his books on Iran's oil history. In addition to The Nightmare of Petroleum, Movahed has authored Nationalization and Damages; Lessons from Oil Arbitration.
