On Tuesday morning, April 29, 2025, Hossein Shameli, Director of the Oil Industry Documents and Museums Center, visited the Mahmudabad Petroleum Faculty to explore its heritage potential, historical artifacts, and archival resources.
The visit emphasized the urgency of identifying, registering, and properly documenting valuable items and documents preserved at the faculty.

The visit began with a meeting hosted by Dr. Peighami, Dean of the Mahmudabad Petroleum Faculty, in the faculty’s conference hall. Dr. Peighami underlined the historical and cultural importance of the preserved artifacts and called for enhanced cooperation with the Documents and Museums Center in the areas of conservation, documentation, and professional preservation of these valuable assets.

It was agreed that a team of experts from the Center would be dispatched to assist in the documentation and organization of the faculty’s collection.

Highlighting the significance of safeguarding oil and maritime industry artifacts, Dr. Peighami also proposed the establishment of an innovation center focused on industrial heritage. He described this initiative as a strategic move to engage broader audiences, including students, industry professionals, and community groups.

During the session,  Shameli presented an overview of the Center’s mission and activities since its establishment in 2013. He noted that the Center houses key historical documents such as the D’Arcy Concession and other foundational records of Iran’s oil industry.

He also announced a new cooperation agreement between the Oil Industry Archives Center and the Islamic Revolution Documents Center, which will enable reciprocal access and utilization of each institution’s archival resources.

Shameli further emphasized the oil industry’s historical role in Iran’s social, cultural, educational, and healthcare development. He mentioned that a dedicated heritage charter for the oil industry is currently being drafted.

Among the Center’s recent achievements, he highlighted the identification of over 700 heritage buildings linked to the oil industry. “Through innovative contractual models and private sector participation,” he said, “these valuable sites can be transformed into vibrant cultural and social hubs for the general public.”
