On May 25, 2025, a joint meeting was held between the officials of Sacred Defense Museums and Oil Industry Museums at the headquarters of the National Iranian Oil Products Distribution Company in Abadan. The session was attended by Amir Salim Tabakhi, Head of the Organization for Sacred Defense Museums and Memorials, and Hossein Shameli, Director of the Center for Oil Industry Archives and Museums.
During the meeting, both parties emphasized the importance of shared cultural and historical capacities and called for expanding bilateral cooperation between Sacred Defense and Oil Industry museums to effectively convey national values to future generations.
Amir Tabakhi highlighted the crucial role of museums in raising public awareness and stated, “Culture is transmitted through content, discourse, art, and thought—areas where Sacred Defense museums have significant potential.” He referred to the Abadan-based Sacred Defense and Oil Industry Museums as a “unique geographic treasure” and announced plans to develop the complex in cooperation with the Ministry of Petroleum, at the border region.
Hossein Shameli, in turn, acknowledged the contributions of oil industry personnel in the cultural sector and pointed to the vital role of this industry in Iran’s modern history. “From the nationalization of oil to the Iran–Iraq War and international sanctions, the oil industry has always been a cornerstone of the country,” he noted.
Shameli also emphasized the importance of showcasing the achievements of the oil industry to the public, citing key accomplishments such as involvement in major infrastructure projects like the Baset Bridge and the sacrifices of employees on Kharg Island. He mentioned that since the 1979 revolution, Iran has produced over 40 billion barrels of oil—1.5 to 2 times more than the total output before the revolution. Additionally, daily gas production has reached one billion cubic meters, and all phases of the South Pars gas field have been completed despite sanctions. Currently, 87% of oil industry equipment is manufactured domestically.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Shameli praised the pivotal role of the Abadan region in supporting Arbaeen pilgrimages, fuel supply operations, the Shalamcheh border, and services to the Arvand Free Zone industries.
He emphasized the need for sufficient resource allocation to ensure the sustainable development and broader recognition of the oil industry. On the sidelines of the visit, the delegation toured various sections including the Apprenticeship Museum, the historic Gasoline House, the Abadan Sacred Defense and Oil Industry Museum, and the Khorramshahr Sacred Defense Museum.
