According to the Management of the Oil Industry Documents Center and Museums Public Affairs, on Tuesday Jan.12 , Hosein Shameli had a meeting with Afshin Javan ,Head of Iran’s Representative in OPEC Executive Board and Energy Assemblies.

In this meeting by reminding the 115-year-old history of the oil industry in Iran and interrelation between this industry and various economic, politic, social and cultural parts, the role of Iran in the establishment of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) was pointed out and collecting documents and evidence of Iran’s presence in OPEC was being emphasized.

Afshin Javan ,in this meeting, announced the readiness of the collection under his management for any cooperation with the Management of the Oil Industry Documents Center and Museums to receive records, photos and videos of Iran’s presence in OPEC meetings from its Department Secretariat in Vienna.

The organization of petroleum exporting countries (OPEC) was formed after the September-1960 meeting in Baghdad with the participation of Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and venezuela. This organization emerged in line with the defense against the big oil companies known as the “Seven Sisters” which due to their possession of oil production technology and control over the crude oil transportation network, prevented the increase in the price of oil and artificially kept its value low in the market.

On the sidelines of this meeting, the Head of Iran Representative in OPEC Executive Board and Energy Assemblies visited the Permanent Exhibition of the Management of the Oil Industry Documents Center and Museums and expressed his surprise at seeing some objects and documents in this exhibition.
