NPC Efforts Document For Marketing Abroad

Tuesday, May 30, 2017NPC Efforts Document For Marketing Abroad

The above document has been chosen from the valuable old documents of the National Petrochemical Company (NPC), showing the company’s efforts for marketing and establishing subsidiaries overseas.
The history of founding NPC and the difficulties it faced in view of marketing abroad after signing what was called Consortium Contract have been already described in other documents (the interested individuals could take a look at them in the related section on the site).
A year after the overthrow of Premier Mohammad Mossadegh, the new Iranian government concluded negotiations with Britain over the Anglo - Iranian Oil Company (BP). The Dispute was finalized in 1954 with founding an international oil consortium which reduced  BP's share to 40%.

NPC was faced with marketing restrictions after the signing of the consortium contract even though then officials of NPC and NIOC tried hard to circumvent these restrictions and to expand their markets overseas including in India, Malaysia as well as in Africa.
During 1968 and 1969 Iran’s Economic Council frequently discussed marketing issue for petrochemical products in which then Iranian prime minister Amir-Abbas Hoveyda (who served as Prime Minister of Iran from 27 January 1965 to 7 August 1977) asked the managing director of NIOC to put marketing for NPC products on the agenda (document No.1).
In his order, the prime minister pointed out that in Thailand, the officials may not allow the NPC foreign partner, Allied Corporation, to start its commercial activities in the country but still they may agree with NPC marketing activities in their territory.
Following the order, Manuchehr Eqbal the managing director of NIOC provided a detailed report on the company’s efforts to implement the request. (Documents 2 and 3).
Bagher Mostofi the first managing director of the National Petrochemical Company (NPC) says the Allied Corporation entered Iran’s petrochemical market for the first time through signing a contract for the construction of the Shahpour Petrochemical Plant and then expanded its presence in Iran’s market by the construction of other petrochemical complexes across the country.
